Head Injuries Can Cause Unrelated Problems

Unidentified damage from a past traumatic brain injury could be the unlikely source of problems ranging from poor memory and learning difficulties to behavioral changes such as homelessness and alcoholism, according to new research reported in The Wall Street Journal. New York’s Mt. Sinai School of Medicine has found that brain injury therapy often helps people with a variety of other social ills and addictions. Causes of brain injury can include bike and car accidents, sports concussions and abuse and falls dating back to childhood.

This report confirms what we have seen in our practice: clients who sustained a head injury and didn’t know it suffer from headaches, forgetfulness, anger, lack of concentration, focus, etc. Physicians ignored their complaints either because the patients could not clearly explain their symptoms, the physicians did not know how to treat the problem or where to refer the patients for treatment. With proper and timely diagnosis, we have found that brain injury can be treated. Without treatment, these patients suffer in silence.
