Fireworks Injure WrestleMania Fans in Orlando

A cable failure sent burning fireworks shooting into the crowd at a WrestleMania event in Orlando, Fla. on March 30, injuring more than 30 spectators. The wrestling fans suffered minor welts and other first-degree burns when the cable holding the fireworks collapsed, according to the Orlando Sentinel.
Radio talk shows have been buzzing with questions about how local officials could let this kind of dangerous activity happen. Unfortunately, while the promoter was required to have a permit for the fireworks display, Florida law does not place significant safety oversight on these types of activities. This is just another example of the “unintended consequence” of less government regulation in situations where a dangerous activity can put unwitting spectators at risk.
