Family Promise is an organization actively working to help homeless families here in Central Florida. The organization provides emergency shelter, meals and support services. The goal is to help homeless and low-income families achieve independence. They work to support these families sustain independence through community response. Family Promise has been operating for 20 years now. It is an affiliate of the national program.
Not only are we proud of this organization’s work and existence within Greater Orlando- we’re proud of our very own Dan Smith. He was recently voted as the President of the Board. We asked Dan to share with us why this organization was so important to him. His answer was simple but impactful: “I hope with the help of organizations such as Family Promise, we will see a day when no child is told they don’t have a home.”
Dan also shared that he’s been involved with Family Promise of Greater Orlando for over 3 years now. He got involved because Family Promise does amazing work helping homeless families not only get housed, but coaching them so that they break the cycle of homelessness. Dan grew up in this area, went to Edgewater High School and University of Central Florida for undergrad. He says, “We have an amazing community and am proud of how we help others in need”. As Board President, Dan wants to continue to develop and strengthen a program called Keeping The Promise. A program that provides coaching and services to families even after they are housed. We find that housing is just part of the problem. Families need continued guidance and support to make sure that they stay housed.
